No homework tonight!

Hello everyone,

Much to the children's delight (and probably yours too :-) ), we have won a NO HOMEWORK PASS for tonight. The kids have been trying really hard to recycle their rubbish in class. Everyday they are asked to bring home leftover lunches, wrappers and containers in their lunchbags/ lunchboxes. They also know that they're only supposed to put paper, cardboard, tissue and washed out milk cartons into our bin. Every day some of the senior students on the Green Schools Committee check our bins. The boys and girls have improved so much at recycling and last week for the first time we got 5 'green cards' in a row (instead of black!) Because of this we won a night off homework. Homework will resume as normal tomorrow.

Also, just a reminder that we're off school tomorrow at 12pm as there is staff in-service training.

Homework for week 22nd - 26th Feb. 2016

Homework is as follows:

Monday: Handwriting letter 'n' and 5 minutes on blending word lists/ reading.

Tuesday: Handwriting letter 'm' and 5 minutes on blending word lists/ reading.

Wednesday: This week we are revising all our double letter sounds 'ai', 'oa', 'ie', 'ee', 'or' instead of beginning a new one. We won't be using the Phonics workbook this week for homework. Instead I have included a revision worksheet. Don't forget each sound has a song too. Sing along at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCjJYB07aSU 
Please practice Dolch words tonight too!

Thursday: Maths worksheet and 5 minutes on Dolch words. 

I have also included a handout in the folders with some useful tips for parents on how to bring Maths into everyday life.

A few snaps from the last couple of weeks!

Teddy Bear Disco

It is friendship week this week in the school, and everyday the children have been in friendship groups with other members of Junior Infants and Senior Infants. Each day for a few minutes before yard, the children get into their groups and play organised games, with some members of third class leading. It has been great fun, and hopefully they'll have made a few new friends along the way! We have also been talking about the qualities of a good friend in class.

On Friday afternoon, seen as it's the last day before the midterm break we'll be having a Teddy Bear Disco in class. The kids can bring in their furry friends to join in the fun :-)

Homework correcting

Just a little note about homework correcting! I take up all the homework folders on a Friday and check/ correct all the week's work at once as well as giving new word booklets/ word lists if needed. I find this saves time during the week. I have noticed that if I correct the homework each day during school-time it takes about 15/ 20 minutes. I prefer to spend this time listening to the children's reading.

Homework for week 8th - 12th February

Homework for the week!

Monday: Handwriting page letter 'y' and 5 minutes on blending sounds word booklet. PLEASE TICK THE WORDS once they are known. I will give out a new booklet once all of the words have been ticked. Every child should work at their own pace. 

Tuesday: Handwriting page letter 'r' and 5 minutes on blending sounds word booklet. Once again, please tick the words off once your child can blend all the individual sounds and say the word. 

Wednesday: 'or' page in My Sounds Booklet. Practice writing 'or' and draw a few pictures of words containing 'or' like fork, horn, corn etc. Also, 5 minutes on Dolch words. Tick off words that are known!

Thursday: New Maths page in folder (2D shapes) and 5 minutes on Dolch list.
