Important homework update

An important homework update!

As of today, Monday 11th January, the structure of the homework will change. Every Monday and Tuesday the children will complete one page of handwriting from their Just Handwriting book. Also, on Monday and Tuesday they will also practice reading the three letter words from the little booklet in their homework folder (cot, dog, dad etc) – you should spend no more than 5 minutes on this.  Please tick each word that your child knows as you move through the words. If necessary you can help them to sound them out e.g "l-o-g log". If the word is not known continue practicing every night until it is known. Some children may move through this very quickly and their book will then be replaced with new words when all of the words are ticked. Children will work through these booklets at their own pace.

Every Wednesday the children will complete a page from their Sounds Book. These will be double vowel sounds e.g ‘ai’. They will also spend 5 minutes practicing reading words from the Dolch List in their homework folders. Instructions for this are on the Dolch List in their folder. We aim to have completed Dolch List 1 and 2 by the end of this school year.

Every Thursday the children will complete a Maths page based on the topic we are learning in school. They will also spend 5 minutes practicing words from the Dolch list.

Please check your child’s homework folder every day. They may have additional/alternative work to complete based on their needs and this may not be mentioned in a general note or on the class blog.
It is extremely important that the children spend sufficient time on their word booklets and Dolch lists for homework.

The homework will be updated on the class blog each Monday. Homework should take no longer than 15 mins. Please leave everything in your child’s folder for correction.
This week’s homework is as follows:

Monday – Handwriting page letter  c and 5 minutes on three letter word booklet – cot, dog, dad
Tuesday – Handwriting page letter o and 5 minutes on three letter word booklet.
Wednesday -  ai page – My Sounds Booklet – 5 minutes on Dolch list.
Thursday – Maths page - 5 minutes on Dolch list.

If you have any questions about the homework, please feel free to email me.
Many thanks,

Julie

Wednesday 6 January 2016

Happy New year to everybody! I hope you all had a lovely break.

Just a quick note to say there won't be any homework starting until Monday 11th.

Our theme for the next two weeks is Toys. As part of Junk Art in Aistear we will be making toy boats, and testing them to see if they sink or float. I will have some material, however if the children would like to bring in any additional material from home to design their boat in class that would be great.

Also, in history we will be exploring old toys and new. If there are any grannies or grandads (or parents!) that would like to come in to talk to the children about toys in their childhood it would be greatly appreciated and very beneficial for the children.

Thanks,
Julie
